Sally J. Peck, 70 of Rock Island, died Monday, November 28th at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, bringing an end to a long battle with lung disease.

A Celebration of Life Memorial will take place at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Avenue, Rock Island on Friday, December 2nd at 6:00 pm.  A prayer service will begin at 6:30 pm. Cremation rites will be accorded.

Sally was born on May 3, 1946 in Rock Island, to the late Edwin and Darleen Doran. She graduated from Rock Island High School and later took nursing classes at Black Hawk College. In 1964, she married Don Peck with whom she shared two children. They divorced in 1969, however, they remained life- long friends which included a very special friendship with Don’s wife, Patricia, who also shared Sally‘s love of bingo and co-parenting Sally and Don‘s children, Bret and Melissa.

Sally enjoyed the beaches in Florida, the ocean, travel, playing bingo, casino games, crossword puzzles, and was an avid reader . Her greatest joys in life were her children and her grandson, Douglas, whom she dubbed her “one and only”.

Survivors include her adoring son and constant companion, Bret Peck, Rock Island; her faithful daughter, Melissa Benilous (Brian Nabors); grandson, Douglas Benilous, Jupiter, Florida; her loving brothers, Douglas Doran (Teresa Hammond-Doran), Daniel Doran and Steve Doran (Alice Doran); her devoted sisters, Mary Francescon (Joe Francescon), Sheila Anderson (Rick Anderson); a host of cousins, nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Darleen Doran; grandmother, Goldia Cromer; and her brothers, Edwin Doran II and Patrick Doran.

Additionally, the nursing staff and aides at Hope Creek Care Center including, a very special Nurse, Amy Oestreich, and Social Worker, Jamie Boisen who continually went above and beyond the scope of duty to assist Sally on a daily basis in the months preceding her death.

Medical Research was very important to Sally who was also an organ donor.
