Dave Allen Montgomery

Dave A. Montgomery, 64, of Milan, died Monday, June 27, 2016 at UnityPoint Health - Trinity, Rock Island.  Cremation rites were accorded.  A memorial visitation will be Tuesday, July 5, from 4-7 p.m. at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan.  Burial was private at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors were presented.  Memorials may be made in care of the family to establish a college fund for Dave's granddaughters.

Dave was born in Rock Island on November 20, 1951, a son of Lloyd and Thelma Teel Montgomery.  Dave was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. Following his time in the service, he graduated from Black Hawk College.

Dave married Gayle Magerkurth on August 20, 1977 in Rock Island, with whom he had two daughters.  They later divorced.

Dave worked for John Deere Harvester for 40 years, retiring in 2014.  He enjoyed working with his hands and riding his motorcycle.  He loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his daughters (and spouses), Amy (Mike) Lavery, Bettendorf and Abby (Jerry) Hoggard, Taylor Ridge; granddaughters, Andi and Gracie Lavery and Addison and Taylor Hoggard; mother, Thelma Montgomery, Milan; siblings, Mark (Pat) Montgomery, Milan, Brad (Carla) Montgomery, Andalusia, Tracey (Toni) Montgomery, Dixon, Ill. and Monte Montgomery, Milan; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and sister, Pamela Kipp.
