Bessie L. Duncan

 Bessie L. Duncan, 105, of Aledo, IL, formerly of Milan, IL, passed away Tuesday July 26, 2016 at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo.

 Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 8th, at Wheelan-Pressly Fuenral Home and Crematory, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan, IL. Burial will be at Chapel Grove Cemetery, Taylor Ridge, IL. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, August 7th, at the funeral home. Memorial s may be made to Taylor Ridge United Methodist Church, Chapel Grove Cemetery, or to GiGi's Playhouse.

 Bessie was born February 13, 1911 in Fountain Run, Kentucky, a daughter of Lewis and Matilda Steenbergen Bewley. Bessie and James "Art" Duncan were united in marriage on March 19, 1931 in Kentucky. He preceded her in death in November of 1973.

 Bessie graduated from Western Kentucky State Teachers College, Bowling Green, KY, following which she taught in country schools in Kentucky for several years. Upon moving to Illinois, she worked at Royal Neighbors of America, Rock Island, for a time and later retired from McCabe's Dept. Store, Rock Island, after many years of service.

 She was a member of Taylor Ridge United Methodist Church. Bessie enjoyed quilting, playing cards, and most of all visiting with friends and family. She will be fondly remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved cooking , her raisin cream pie was a family favorite.

Surviving are her daughter, Oleta Erichsen, Moline, and son and daughter-in-law, James L. and Janis Duncan, Seal Beach, CA; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family.

Bessie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Robert Duncan, one great-grandson, Nathan Hornbuckle, and brothers, James, Leo, Jessie, William, Eugene and Pete Bewley and her sister, Christine Baker.
