Vellie Mae (Summage) Moore

Vellie M. “Boo” Moore, 80, of Davenport, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Genesis East Medical Center, Davenport. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at the Word of Life Church, 1804 7th Ave., Rock Island. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. In accordance with public gathering restrictions, attendees are required to wear a face mask and observe social distancing. Capacity limits will be monitored. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport. Memorials may be made in care of the family.

Vellie was born on June 9, 1940 in Millington, TN, daughter of Earnest and Jessie Mae (Peete) Summage. She married Chester Moore in April 1959 in Clarksdale, MS. He preceded her in death. Vellie was primarily a housewife, but she previously worked in housekeeping at Ridgecrest Village and the Clarion Hotel. Vellie enjoyed fishing, going to the casino, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Tommy (Theresa) Moore Sr., Myrtis Moore, Marilyn Moore, Rose Moore (Aubrey “GI” Bell, fiancé), James Moore, all of Davenport, IA, and Marionette (Mary) Moore, Bettendorf; step-daughter, Betty (Eddie) Williams, Knightdale, NC; thirty-three grandchildren; seventy-three great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Marie Summage, Earnest Summage, Lois McDowell, and Charles Summage; sister-in-law, Bessie Foster; brother-in-law, K.C. Lewis; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friends, Ida “Mutt” Henderson and Mary Flyter.

Vellie was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two children; step-daughter, Carrie Moore; granddaughters, Shameckia Morgan-Moore, Tamika Welch-Moore, and Darshaya Moore; great-granddaughter, Tatiyaunna Green; and siblings, Tommy Foster, Laverne Mays, Elnora Lewis, Mary White, Jeraldine Summage, Sylvester “Willie Mack” Summage, and Jeff Summage.
