Sylvia J. Petty, 83, of Milan, passed away Friday, October 23, 2020 at Mercer Manor, Aledo. Funeral services for Sylvia will be 12 Noon Tuesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 4th Ave. E., Milan. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Social distancing and facemasks are required. Burial will be in Chapel Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Taylor Ridge United Methodist Church.
Sylvia was born July 3, 1937 in Moline, a daughter of Lawrence and Evelyn (McConnell) Curry. She married Harry Petty on October 21, 1956 at Taylor Ridge United Methodist Church. Sylvia was a loving homemaker for her husband and daughter. She also worked for Bituminous Insurance, as a CNA at Oak Glen Home and as a house cleaner over the years. Sylvia was a member of Taylor Ridge United Methodist Church. She greatly enjoyed flower gardening and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Sylvia was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. All of her life she was a hard worker and she was also an excellent cook.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Harry of Milan; daughter, Pamela Rinell of Taylor Ridge; grandchildren, Jennifer (Aaron) Sharp of Davenport, Jilena (Megan) Rinell of Bettendorf and Molly (Levi) McCracken of Des Moines; great grandchildren, Brooke and Kiersten Johnson and Alexander and Hannah Ewing; sister, Virginia Schmidt of Mt. Zion, and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother in law, Larry Schmidt.
