Margaret Elizabeth Walloch was born November 30, 1950 to Elmer and Dorothy (Stepka) Walloch in Yankton, SD. She spent her early childhood on the family farm near Lesterville, SD and attended a one-room schoolhouse. When she was 10, the family moved to Davenport, IA. She grew up in Davenport and graduated from West High School in 1969.

Following graduation, Peg began her 40-year career in the forklift industry. She started at Big River Equipment working in inventory control, purchasing, and sales.  Later, she worked for Lift Truck Services and Altorfer Inc. In 1994, Peg began her employment at Char Nor Remanufacturing in the research and development department. She worked there for 21 years until her retirement in 2015. Peg’s achievements include numerous recognitions as Employee of the Month, a feature in a forklift magazine about her long career in the field, and most importantly, the camaraderie she had with her coworkers.

Peg was a single mother who considered her greatest accomplishment to be her daughter, Michele. She raised her in Davenport until 1998 when they moved to their home in Eldridge. She worked hard and sacrificed endlessly to help put her daughter through college; and she would proudly talk about her to everyone she met.

Peg enjoyed spending her time gardening, “putzing around the house,” watching her shows, and gabbing with her neighbors, friends, and family. The conversation often turned to food, as she loved exchanging recipes. Peg loved to cook and over the years she was frequently asked to bring her famed “crunchy potato salad” to family get-togethers. Her Mexican food was also top-notch, especially considering her Czech and Polish heritage.

The values of sympathy and charity were strongly instilled in Peg by her mom and she was always one to help others in need. Just a few examples include setting up a lemonade and popcorn stand with her daughter to help the flood victims of the 1993 flood, donating numerous items to a low-income woman with cancer she read about in the newspaper, and she was constantly looking out for her neighbors.

She is survived by her daughter, Michele Walloch; siblings, Chuck (Shirlee) Walloch, Jerry (Judy) Walloch, Pam Walloch, Paulettte Day, and Bill (Bob Bohannon) Walloch; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and infant sister, Dorothy.
