June S. (Shroyer) Britton

June S. Britton, 97, of Silvis, IL, formerly of Rock Island and Moline, passed away Thursday February 18, 2021 at New Perspective Senior Living, Silvis, IL. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. 

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday February 23, at Two Rivers United Methodist Church, Rock Island, with visitation one hour prior to services at the church. Private Burial will be at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island, is assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Two Rivers United Methodist Church.  

June was born June 13, 1923 in Galesburg, IL, the daughter of Homer and Rose Johnson Shroyer. She married James F. Britton on January 23, 1941 in Burlington, Iowa. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1982.  

 As a young girl June excelled in tap dancing and performing in cities in and around Galesburg, IL.  

As a mother she was active as Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout leader and President of the PTA at Lincoln grade school in Rock Island. 

June worked as a bookkeeper at McCabes, Mosenfelder’s Mens clothing and the City of Rock Island, where she retired from. In earlier years, she owned and managed, along with her husband the family grocery stores, Harmony Foods & Britton’s Grocery.   

She was a member of Two Rivers United Methodist Church, Friends Circle, and Clara Lodge of the Moline Viking Club. June was an avid card player and especially enjoyed Euchre. She enjoyed playing cards anywhere and anytime at the Moline V.F.W. The Moose, The Elks and activities at the Moline Senior Center.  

Surviving are her children, Connie (Bob) Hall, Moline, Rob (Pam) Britton, Rock Island, and Joan (Larry) Jones, Peoria, IL; grandchildren, Kristal Hainline, Kurtis Hall, Julie (Ben) Green, Jim Britton, John (Erica) Buckles, Jennifer (Ken) Brooke, Troy (Cala) Jones and Amanda (Nick) Vogelsang; great grandchildren, Jeremy, Lindsey, Stephanie, Kassidy, Briana, Austin, Cory, Ethan, Rachael, Chase, Mason, Beckah, Gunner and Ryder;  great-great grandchildren; Avarie, Eli, Maizey, Stetson and several nieces, nephews, and other family.  

June was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son, Jimmy;  great-great granddaughter, Emery; and her brother, Wayne Shroyer.
