James "Jim" Van Vooren Obituary

James “Jim” E. Van Vooren, 76, of Coyne Center passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at home.

Per Jim’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and no services are to be held. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan is assisting the family.

Jim was born on October 18, 1947 in LaSalle, Illinois. He graduated from Alleman High School and went on to attend Blackhawk College. After college, he went on to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1969. He earned several medals while serving, including two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. Jim married Kathryn Rogers in 1978. He worked for the City of East Moline in the public works department, where he was in charge of road maintenance. Jim was an avid Chicago Bears fan.

Those left to cherish Jim’s memory include his wife, Kathryn Van Vooren; children, Ronald Newberry Jr., Krystal (James) Elliott, Joyell Britt and Cindy (Scott) Lloyd; grandchildren, Nicki (Tim) Brus, April (Mike) Merrill, Angel Newberry (Tucker Deitz), Janae Allison, James (Molly) Allison, Kayla (Jake) Dare, Jeremy (Maddie) Timm, Sam Elliott, Jaelie Britt and Jalene Britt; great grandchildren, Dayton, Jayden, Carter, Beau, Maddoxx, Brecken, Rhonnin, Maddyn and Leah; niece, Renee (Brian) Sorenson-Shirey; nephew, Dennis (Sherry) Sorenson; great nieces and nephews, Ariel (Phillip) Delaney, Kelsey Sorenson and Taylor Sorenson; great great nieces and nephews, Evan, Brayden, Kaycc, Anthony and Will; sister in law, Denny (Bob) Bainbridge; brothers in law, Onie (Kathy) Rogers and Steve (Shari) Rogers; and nieces and nephews in law, Amy, Amber, Tanya, Onie Jr., Joey, Amanda, Hope and Jason.

Condolences and expressions of sympathy may be left for the family on Jim’s tribute wall.
