James T. (Jim) Shreve, beloved father, grandfather and friend, passed away Monday, January 19, 2026, at the age of 84.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Monday January 26, 2026, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. The family will greet friends from 10:00am to service time. Burial will follow in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Rock Island Community Foundation or QC Paws.
Jim was born on September 19, 1941, in Davenport, the son of Charles J. and Hazel A. (Osborne) Shreve, though he always felt himself a product of Rock Island’s West End. He was a graduate of the Rock Island High School class of 1959 and later graduated from the former Lincoln Barber College in East Moline. Beginning in 1959, he worked in the family-owned Charlie’s Barber Shop in Rock Island, starting alongside his father and later barbering on his own until retiring in 2021. He was proud of his service in the Illinois Army National Guard from 1959 to 1967, and enjoyed many years on the hot rod circuit, spending many days in the garage and weekends at shows with his ‘34 Ford.
Jim had one son, James Thomas Shreve, with his former wife. He shared many years with Lorraine Donna Inman, with whom he treasured every day until her passing in 2019.
He was a close friend to many who frequented Charlie’s Barber Shop and with his fellow car guys. Jim loved his small family, including his son, daughter in law Jennifer Shreve, his grandson James Thomas Shreve III (Jack), and his cousin Sharon Joens and the Joens family. He was preceded in death by his parents.
