Donald Glancy Obituary

Donald Wayne Glancy, 88, of Silvis, formerly of Milan, was born October 3, 1934 in Chicago and raised in Moberly, Mo. He was the only child of Dorothy Glancy.

During his senior year at Moberly Junior College, High School Division (class of 1952), Don met his future wife, Shirlie Sevier at a roller rink. He always claimed she flirted with him first. Don spent the next eight years of married life serving his country in the US Navy. He was ship's cook on the USS Sublette County LST-1144 and was awarded the Naval Defense Service Medal and Navy Occupation Service Medal - European Clasp.

Following the service, Don worked the next 30 years at John Deere Harvester in East Moline, Ill., retiring in 1995.  As a couple, Don and Shirlie were rarely separated for more than a day for 66 years and lived most of their married life in Milan. Those who knew and loved him will remember him most for the ear-to-ear smile that always seemed simply a part of his wardrobe.

Don was an active member of the Milan Presbyterian Church, where he served in many capacities. He also volunteered his time with the ARC of the Quad Cities and at Trinity Hospital.

Don passed away gently on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at New Perspective, Silvis. He leaves behind his son Randy Glancy of Rolla, Mo, and two cherished grandsons, Quinn Glancy of Whitewater, Wis., and Cooper Glancy of Chicago, Ill., nieces Tammy Schmidt and Tanya Negus, nephews Dan, Dean, Shaun and Tim Herrin and Steven Sevier.

He is being welcomed home by his wife, who passed away in 2020.

Graveside services will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2022 at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials are suggested to the Milan Presbyterian Church.
