Clarissa Margaret (McLaughlin) Jahn, 105, of Taylor Ridge, passed away Friday October 15, 2021 at Avonlea Cottage, Milan, where she had resided the last two years.
A service celebrating her life will be held on November 28, 2021 at 1:30 P.M.at Edgington Evangelical Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be left to Rockridge Food Pantry or to your charity of choice.
Clarissa was born on July 20, 1916 in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Clarence and Margaret (Cartwright) McLaughlin. She graduated from Northwestern Illinois University with a teaching degree. After college, she married the love of her life, Arthur Jahn on July 20, 1940 in Highland Park, Illinois. They then resided at the family farm in Taylor Ridge.
Mrs. Jahn was a teacher with Rock Ridge School District for several years during the 1960’s, teaching French, English and Spanish.
Clarissa was a true Christian. She helped raise their three children, David, Virginia and Edward. Mrs. Jahn was a member of Edgington Evangelical Prebyterian Church. She and a friend started the Edgington Presbyterian Church food pantry. She also helped set up the school medical assistance, taught English to migrant workers in the area and served with Arthur as missionaries for 18 years in Mexico.
She loved reading, writing stories for publications and traveling the world.
Clarissa is survived by her children, David Jahn, Edward (Ana) Jahn, Virginia Brockett; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; parents, Clarence and Margaret; sister, Miriam; daughter in law, Maria and many dear friends.
