Robert Taylor

Robert Taylor, 79, of Rock Island, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at his home. Services for Mr. Taylor will be 10 am, Monday at the Greater Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 pm to 6 pm, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be conducted be the Moline American Legion Post No. 246. Memorials may be made to the family. Robert was born on July 8, 1939 in Huntingdon, Tennessee. He was raised by his grandfather, Manuel Taylor and his mother, Hazel Taylor Harrison. He married Dorothy Mae Thompson on January 3, 2011 in Rock Island. Mr. Taylor worked as a foreman at Navistar, retiring in 2000 after 42 years of service. He was a member of Greater Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Rock Island. Robert enjoyed watching sports, playing pool and dancing. Mr. Taylor was a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; children, Dale Ganaway, Davenport, Bryant (Katie) Payton, Minnesota, Marilyn (Chuck) McCauley, Davenport, Kim (Frank) Cunningham, Arizona, and Robbianne Henderson, Mississippi; 11 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a brother, Freddie Taylor, Rock Island.
