Maria D. Johnson, 65, of Madison Heights, Mich., passed away Saturday July 6, 2019 at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital, Pontiac, Mich.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 15, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. A Rosary will be recited at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 14, with visitation following from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or National Kidney Foundation of Michigan.
Maria was born September 11, 1953 in Moline, Ill., a daughter of John D. and Mary R. Ramirez Solis. She graduated from Rock Island High School. She and David R. Johnson were united in marriage for 45 years.
Maria was employed in Food Service management for many years. Her family was her greatest joy. She will be fondly remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Maria never knew a stranger, and shared her laughter, grace and charm with all.
Surviving are her husband, David, Sr., of Madison Heights; children, David R. (Jamie) Johnson, II, Madison Heights, Rhea M. Watson, Warren, Mich., Tiara R. (Andrew) Johnson, White Lakes, Mich.; grandchildren, David R. Johnson, III, Selena Watson, Chano Watson, Andrew Johnson, Jr.; sisters and brothers, Elvera Solis, Teresa McGary, Linda Solis, all of Rock Island, and Natalie Solis, East Moline; brothers, Donald John (Rose) Solis, Milan, Victor Solis, Davenport, Frank (Linda) Solis, Rock Island, Joseph (Kathy) Solis, Silvis, and Michael (Karen) Solis, Rock Island; and numerous, nieces, nephews, cousins and additional family.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Manuel Solis, sister, Mary Jane Solis, brother-in-law, Jim McGary, and sister-in-law, Judy Solis.
