Loveona M. Stewart

Loveona Marie Stewart, 78, of Coal Valley, Ill., passed away Friday April 19, 2019 at UnityPoint-Trinity, Rock Island.

A memorial gathering and celebration of Loveona’s life will be 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials may be made to The Bee Foundation (for brain aneurysm research), 303 W. Lancaster Avenue #334, Wayne, PA 19087.

Loveona was a giver and a gifter. She loved her family with a passion and sometimes a firm hand. She was known and loved by countless numbers of people, and was “the other mother” to people who needed her. She loved animals and will join her beloved pets, Samantha, Prince and Buppi.

She loved to sew and quilt, and was a master of both. Many of her masterpiece quilts were made and donated to charity.

Loveona had the greenest thumb in the family. She has cultivated her Grandfather’s Christmas Cactus since his death and shared “starts” with many family members. She loved to relax on her screened in back porch while admiring her beautiful yard and “Froggy” her favorite sculpture.

Loveona and Jim enjoyed their annual “jelly & salsa factories” which they then loved to gift to others. She loved to golf and was annoyed that her hips and knee replacement got in the way of that. She has gotten 3 hole-in-ones! She and Jim have golfed every U.S. state except Rhode Island and Alaska.

She enjoyed playing Bridge, 500, watching Jeopardy, NCIS and movie musicals. Her favorite music groups were Queen and Abba.

Loveona was an official Election Judge for Rock Island County. She did many jobs in her lifetime and retired from the George Evans Company.

She is survived by her husband, Jim; daughters, Tracey and Shanna; siblings, Valerie, Jacque and Kelly; brother-in-law, Mike; grandchildren, Christine, James, Sam and Jon; great grandchildren, Devan, Adrian, Ricky, Amaiah, Paige and Dominick; great-great grandson, Kole; and many nieces and nephews.

Loveona was preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn and Wayne Northcutt; In-laws, Mary and Jim Stewart; and grandparents, Orrie and Floyd Bealer.
