Frederick M. Kunst, 73, of Milan, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 12, 2018 at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan. Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be presented by the Milan American Legion Post 569. Memorials may be made in care of the family.
Fred was born in Melrose Park, Ill. on September 6, 1944, a son of Ernest J. Sr. and Duane Fugman Kunst. He married V. Viola Davidson on January 6, 1968. She preceded him in death on October 20, 1997.
Fred had been employed by Lady Luck Casino as a bus driver. Prior to that, he had been employed by Johannes Bus Service, numerous trucking companies and IH Farmall.
He was a member of the Milan American Legion Post 569. Fred was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Vietnam War. He was a 40 year member of A.A. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, camping, playing cards and watching the Chicago Cubs and Bears. Fred was always willing to help others in need, whether it was giving an ear to listen, driving someone to a meeting, or opening his home for a meal or a bed.
Survivors include his children, Frederick S. Kunst, Davenport and Debbra S. Kunst, Milan; sister-in-law, Janet Kunst, Milan; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother, Ernest J. “Butch” Kunst Jr. and sisters and brothers-in-law, Wilma and John P. Fuller, Katherine and Wendlyn Behrens, Shirley and Robert Cover and Billy Davidson.
