Elaine Marie Peterson

Elaine M. Peterson, 98, of Rock Island, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018 at UnityPoint Health-Trinity Rock Island. Funeral services are 10:30 am Monday, Jan. 22, at First Covenant Church, Moline. Burial is at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 9:30 am until service time Monday at the church. Memorials may be made to the First Covenant Church or to Christian Friendliness. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family. Elaine Marie Peterson was born on June 2, 1919 in Moline, a daughter of Fred and Bertha Swanson Peterson. She graduated from Rock Island High School. Elaine retired from the Rock Island Arsenal in 1982, where she had worked as an equipment specialist for 27 years. In early years she worked for the Augustana Book Concern, Rock Island, Naval Training Center at Great Lakes, Ill., and then at a manufacturer’s representative firm, in Chicago. She was a member of First Covenant Church, Moline, its Mary Martha Bible Study group and Women’s Mission Work Shop. Elaine had previously been a long-time member of First Lutheran Church, Rock Island, where she had been a church council member, Sunday school teacher, Care Group member and member of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church (WELCA). She was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE). Elaine loved to travel, garden, read, bake, cook and special times with family. She was also interested in her Swedish heritage and family genealogy. Survivors include her sisters, Ruth Johnston, Rock Island and Norma Olson, Mount Pleasant, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Jody Johnston-Mohr (Stan Mohr), Rock Island, Sherrill Glogowski, Moline, Lance (Antoinette) Johnston, Chicago; Jeff (Gayle) Olson, Winfield, Iowa and Christopher (Lisa) Olson, Mount Pleasant; several great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
