Danielle Pieres Obituary

Danielle Lane Pieres, 57, of Moline, died Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Per her wishes, cremation rites were accorded and there will be no services. Memorials may be made to The Elephant Sanctuary, PO Box 393, Hohenwald, TN 38462 or by visiting www.elephants.com.

Danielle was born in Moline, Ill. on March 10, 1961, the daughter of Arthur and Eleanore Bendt Chambers. She graduated from Rock Island High School. She married Patrick Pieres on August 27, 1983 in Rock Island, Ill. In 1991, they moved to Simi Valley, California where she worked for the School District and Weight Watchers. They retired in 2011 and returned to the Quad Cities.

She was intelligent, independent, inspiring, and empathetic and the quietest outspoken person you would meet. She always deferred her needs to others, because “there's always someone less fortunate who needs my help.” She had a generous heart and a caring soul that many felt a kindred spirit with.

Danielle loved and respected nature and all animals, whether quietly touching a majestic oak, listening to the roar of a waterfall, or watching in fascination as dragonflies and butterflies roamed her yard. She loved watching the seasonal life of nature, such as the deer and fawn eating her summer wildflowers, birds feeding in the winter and nesting in the spring, and no October was complete without walking the trails at Black Hawk State Park to enjoy the colors of the changing season. And she was never happier than listening to a roaring summer thunderstorm from her the back porch.

She also loved science and was inquisitive with her own questions of why something was. Danielle believed knowledge was good and on many occasions dragged her children out of bed to share with them the joy of watching a comet, eclipse, or meteor shower. Even her grandchildren were not immune to this and they were probably the only kids their age who knew what a crescent moon was. Passing on to them that which she found inspiring was important, especially when she saw their eyes light up with a spark of excitement in the same things.

Whether slow dancing with her beloved Pat on their deck under a full moon, or singing to the loud music of Johnny Cash with her brothers and sisters-in-law, or talking on the phone until the wee hours of the morning with her sister or friends, Danielle loved spending time with those she loved. She especially got a kick out of watching her listeners' eyes glaze over in bewilderment as she tried to explain her “crazy quilt” family and how they all fit together.

Danielle will always be remembered for her love of and pride in her children and grandchildren, her concern for all living things from spiders to elephants, her need to always listen to music every day, her love of all things Halloween, frogs, classic horror movies, fine whiskey, and most of all, her husband, Pat.

Survivors include her husband, Patrick; children, Cassie Day, Rock Island and Nathan Pieres (Cambria Wassell), Chatsworth, Calif.; grandchildren, Hailey and Conner Day; siblings, David (Lou) Chambers, Ed (Diane) Mumma, Chuck (Debbie Krohn) Mumma, all of Rock Island and Sandy (Greg) Kurutz, Menomonee Falls, Wisc.; and best friends, Jackie Ulner, Jamie Reichl, and Lori Carlin; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
