Everett C. DeMeyer, 79, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf. Services for Mr. DeMeyer will be 1:30 pm Friday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 – 7th Avenue, Rock Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military rites will be conducted. Memorials may be made to the First Bible Missionary Church, Coal Valley. Everett was born October 12, 1930 in Rock Island, the son of Aliose DeMeyer and Josephine Dhanenes DeMeyer. Mr. DeMeyer worked as an artillery repairman at the Rock Island Arsenal for over 35 years, retiring in 1985. His memberships include the Rock Island VFW Post No. 1303, where he was a lifetime member and the NRA. Everett enjoyed hunting, fishing and shooting. He was a Korean Conflict veteran. Survivors include his children and spouses, Gary and Sandra DeMeyer, Rock Island, Vicki and Denny Mathews, Rock Island; granddaughter, Danielle DeMeyer; sister, Lavern Fortney, Nebraska; nieces, Tina Vander Pool and Vanessa Vander Pool. Mr. DeMeyer was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Elmer DeMeyer. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.wheelanpressly.com
