Velma B. Doyle, 94, of Rock Island, died Tuesday June 29, 2010, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, where a rosary will be recited at 6:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, or to a favorite charity.
Velma was born August 11, 1915, in Attica, IN, a daughter of Alva Towns and Lydia Bell Towns. She married Henry Doyle on July 11, 1937, in Attica, IN. He preceded her in death in October of 1964.
She retired from Royal Neighbors of America in 1980, after 15 years of service.
She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and was a volunteer at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Velma loved reading, her Monday afternoon card game, and visiting with family and friends.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Chet and Kathleen Doyle, Coal Valley, IL, daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Louis Barbieri, Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Patrick Doyle, John Doyle, and Thomas Deeny; great-granddaughter, Kara Deeny; nephew, Jim Towns; nieces, Darlene Shoaf, and Terry Aromi; and other relatives and friends.
Velma is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Chester Towns, sister, Mildred Hancock, several nephews, and one niece.
