Alan K. Swisher, 86, of Milan, IL, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, Milan. Burial with military honors, presented by American Legion Post 569/200 and V.F.W. Post 1303, will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00p.m., Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan, with a Masonic service at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Milan Lions Club.
Alan was born September 29, 1923, in Dubuque, Iowa, a son of Harold Swisher and Lillian Wiegand Swisher. He married Mary Hendrix on August 29, 1952 in Rock Island. She preceded him in death on October 15, 1993.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Prior to his retirement, Alan was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal for 30 years.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Milan, a member and Past Master of Trio Lodge 57 A.F. & A.M. He also was a member of the Lions Club when he resided in Florida.
Alan was an avid fisherman and enjoyed golfing.
Surviving are his sons, Richard Swisher, and his wife Herta, Milan, and Kenneth LeMaster, Strawberry Point, IA; grandchildren, Tammy, Jody, Lottie, Tracy, Stephanie, Steven, Kelly, Cynda, Kim, and Dean; numerous great-grandchildren; sister, Lavon White, Davenport; two nephews; and special friends, JoAnn Jennings and Jim and Helen Webb.
Alan is preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Steven Swisher, daughter, Juanita Lowe, and great-grandson, Dustin Swisher.
