A Celebration of Life memorial service for Pearl I. Clevenstine 100, of Rock Island, will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday June 5, 2010, at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave.,Rock Island, where visitation will be one hour prior to services. The body has been donated for scientific study. Inurnment at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island, will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Clevenstine died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Trinity, Rock Island.
Pearl I. Corbin was born February 27, 1910 in Steffenville, Missouri, the daughter of James D. and Sylvia Bergman Corbin. Pearl married Robert E. Clevenstine on August 20, 1943 in her parents home in St. James, Mo. Robert died January 17, 1983.
Pearl was a member of South Park Presbyterian Church, the Woman’s Club of Rock Island, Quad City Music Guild, Rock Island County Historical Society, and Valley Weavers and Spinners.
Mrs. Clevenstine was a teacher, having graduated from Culver Stockton College in Canton, MO. She taught in schools in Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois. Her latest position was at Washington Jr. High School in Rock Island from 1955 to June 1972 when she retired.
Pearl is survived by two sons, Emmert C. (Janet) Clevenstine of Ferney-Voltaire, France, Robert A. (Sue) Clevenstine of Rock Island; one daughter, Mary L. (Richard) Mohaupt of Pecatonica, IL; four grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Alyssa Clevenstine of Rock Island, Anne E. (Siamak Mostoufi) Mohaupt of Chicago, D. Shadrach (Jennifer) Mohaupt of Pecatonica, and two great grandchildren, Logan and Lauren Mohaupt of Pecatonica. One brother, Harold E. (Grace) Corbin of Anderson, Indiana also survives.
Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and three sisters.
