Interment: Saturday May 15, 2010 at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island, Ill.

John Philip Dingeldein, 79, of Rock Island died Tuesday, May 11th, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30am on Saturday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 24th Street and 31st Avenue, Rock Island. Burial is at Chippiannock Cemetery in Rock Island, where military honors will be presented by American Legion Posts 200 & 569 and V.F.W. Post 1303. A luncheon will follow at St. Pius’ Farrell Hall. Visitation is from 4 to 7pm Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Avenue in Rock Island. Memorials may be made to St. Pius Parish Nursing Program. The Son of Philip and Evelyn Dingeldein, John was born on June 4th, 1930 in Rock Island. He married Rosalyn Michel on January 9th, 1954 in Rushville, Illinois. John was a life long resident of Rock Island and 4th generation to own and operate Dingeldein Gardens. John was always known for having the best sweet corn and tomatoes in the area. Generations of families have grown up on John’s fresh produce, flowers and carving pumpkins from the “Punkin Patch”. He was a great man and will be missed by everyone that knew him. John served in the US Army from ’52 to ’54, and was very active in politics serving 28 years on the County Board. John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rosie, his four children Phillip (Shelly), Michel (Brigitt), Lisa, and Paul; seven grandchildren Justina, Clayton, Drew, Taylor, Caitlin, Brittany and Brady. The family would like to thank all those involved in his care and support during his final days, it was greatly appreciated.
