| Mary V. “Gin” Farrell, 95, of Rock Island, died Saturday, April 19, 2008 at the Silver
Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island. Services will be 12 pm at St. Pius X Catholic Church,
Rock Island. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at church, where a rosary will be
recited at 10:30 am. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made
to St. Pius X Catholic Church. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 – 7th Avenue is assisting the
family with arrangements.
Gin was born on June 29, 1912 in Quincy, ILL the daughter of Robert and Christine Tushaus Farrell.
She married John E. Farrell on June 9, 1935 in St. Louis, Missouri. John preceded his wife in death on
November 24, 1981. Mrs. Farrell worked as a telephone operator for the Illinois Bell Telephone
Company, Rock Island for 38 years.
Gin was a charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Alter and Rosary Society, Ladies
Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus, Legion of Mary, St. Pius X Servants of Christ Prayer
Group Society; the Telephone Pioneers and the Rock Island Women’s Club and the Trinity Medical
Center Auxiliary.
Survivors include a brother, Robert Schepers, Quincy, a sister, Marge Wavering, Quincy;
also several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Farrell was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John; a daughter, Karol Farrell;
a brother and sisters, John “Jack” Schepers, Kathlyn Rogers and Carlene Tipping.
