Fred E. Alexander, 84 of Davenport, IA, formerly of Lancaster, died Monday, April 14, 2008 at Clarissa C. Cook House, Bettendorf, IA. A gathering to celebrate Fred’s life will be 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the residence of Dale Vandike, R.R. 1, Lancaster. Private inurnment will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island, IL is assisting the family with arrangements. Mr. Alexander was born September 15, 1923 in Lancaster, the son of Redwald P. and Elgie Graves Alexander. He married Retha Hepworth, December 4, 1945 in Bynumville, MO. She died October 19, 2002. Fred worked for Diedold Security, Inc. in Overland Park, KS for many years before retiring. In earlier years he was a watch maker. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing and was a veteran, serving in the US Navy during WW II. Fred is survived by, sons and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Joan Alexander, Moline, IL, Robert Alexander, Cedar Falls, IA; grandchildren, Erica, Kyle, Kelsey and Jesse; sister, Grace Vandike, Lancaster. He was preceded by, sister, Martha McClure.
