James O. “Jim” Klawon, 87, of Rock Island, died Monday April 7, 2008 at his home. Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Entombment will be at Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, where a Christian wake service will be held at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a favorite charity. James Otto Klawon was born April 3, 1921 in Montpelier, IA, a son of Rudolph O. and Marie Greenwood Klawon. He married Alvera P. Vietti on May 26, 1943 in Rock Island. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II. Jim worked at International Harvester in Rock Island for 40 years. He retired in 1982. He also worked for a number of years at Sauke and Highland Springs golf courses. He was a charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, a lifetime member of Belgium Brotherhood Club, and volunteered for many years at the former Franciscan Hospital and then Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Jim loved golf and was an avid sports fan, especially of the Illini, Chicago Cub’s, and the late Harry Caray. Surviving are his wife, Alvera, of Rock Island; son and daughter-in-law, Dike and Sue Klawon, Rock Island; grandchildren, Jim Klawon, Rock Island, Jennifer Sebastian, and her husband Brad, Bettendorf, and Jennifer Klawon, Moline; great grandchildren, Maya, Oceana, and Chase; sister, Virginia Huntoon, Moline; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. His parents, sisters, Darlene and Nona, and a brother, Orville, preceded him in death.
