William P. Lappe, 53, of Colona, died Monday, March 31, 2008 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Colona. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, where a Christian wake service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be 10:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or to the Colona Fire Department.
Bill was born on September 29, 1954 in Independence, Iowa, a son of Arthur and Mildred Murphy Lappe. He married Mary J. Dailing on October 2, 1976 in Rock Island.
He raised and trained harness horses in the State of Illinois and was a licensed Illinois Harness Horseman.
Bill was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Colona. He enjoyed woodworking and was Mary’s general contractor. Bill loved his family and the time they were able to spend together.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Crystal Lappe, Springfield, Ill.; daughter, Jonna Lappe, Rock Island; grandchildren, Savannah, Jessica, Lauren, Elise, Wyatt and one on the way, Mason; his mother, Mildred Lappe Wiediger, Independence; brothers and sisters (and spouses), Rosalind Gibbs, Independence, Leroy (Rosie) Lappe, Independence, Paul (Marge) Lappe, Independence, Mary (Roger) Greathouse, North Liberty, Iowa, John (Carol) Lappe, Cedar Falls, Iowa, Rick (Christine) Lappe, Cedar Falls, Jim (Sandy) Lappe, Iowa Falls, Iowa, Kate (Larry) Bernnaman, Riverside, Iowa and Rita (Brian) Ridler, Woodward, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur; step-father, Rob Wiediger and a daughter, Mary Joyce Lappe.
