Elma L. Lenger, 90, a resident of the Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island, died Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan, where a Christian wake service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
The former Elma Ray was born on October 9, 1917 in Cooperstown, Ill., a daughter of Roy and Lillian Ray. Elma graduated from high school in Rushville and married Elmer D. Lenger on November 23, 1939 in Mount Sterling, Ill. He died September 8, 1981.
Elma and Elmer ran the former Bavet in Rock Island in the mid forties.
She was a devoted Catholic. Elma loved to sew, garden and go bowling.
Survivors include her children (and spouses), Carol (Ned) Siebel, Mesa, Ariz., Barbara Ann Cummings, Wheaton, Ill., Robert (Sue) Lenger, Rock Island, Larry (Audrey) Lenger, Milan and Jerry (Kim) Lenger, Garner, NC; grandchildren, Robert Seibel, Jay Seibel, Suzanne Holmes, Jason Lenger, Melissa Ernat, Mark O’Melia, Chris O’Melia, Rebecca Lenger, Mandy Lenger and Katie Lenger; six great grandchildren and sisters, Verna Underwood, Rushville and Doris Snyder of Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, son-in-law, Harry Cummings, and brothers, Wendell and Willie Ray.
