Gene A. Ebel, 86, Rock Island, died Thursday March 27, 2008 at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island.
Services are 1:00 p.m Monday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, with visitation one hour prior to services at the church. Burial with military rites, presented by Moline American Legion, Post 246, will be in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials my be made to either the Fr. Bader Scholarship Fund or to a favorite charity.
Gene was born August 16, 1921 in Kewanee, IL, a son of Walter Ebel and Bertha Swank Ebel. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He and his wife, the former Elizabeth Dura were married for 60 years. They were united in marriage on February 7, 1948 in Kewanee, IL.
He was employed for 32 years at Nichols Home Shield, Davenport. He retired in 1985.
Gene was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and, in earlier years, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island. He was a member of the Moline American Legion, Post 246 and he enjoyed golfing.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth, of Rock Island; children (and spouses), Janice (Bernie) Heaton, Moline, Susan (David) Hurlburt, LaFayette, LA, Nancy (Paul) DeDoncker, Rock Island, and Richard (Ida) Ebel, Pueblo, CO; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
His parents preceded him in death.
