Jerry Allen Thomas, 68, of Rock Island, died Friday, March 21, 2008 at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. until service time. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Rose Lawn Memorial Estate, Moline, where military honors will be presented by Moline American Legion Post 246. Those attending the cemetery service may meet at the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday for the procession to the cemetery. Mr. Thomas was born on May 13, 1939 in Greenbush Township, Warren County, Ill., a son of Harry and Thelma Lewis Thomas. He married Macie K. Loftis and later married Lola Shinn Branham on June 1, 1968 in Beardstown, Ill. Jerry worked 32 years at the Rock Island Arsenal and retired in 1993. He later drove a school bus for the Rockridge School District. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 – 1960. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, coin collecting and playing cards, but ultimately was a devoted family man. Survivors include his wife, Lola; children (and spouses), Neila (David) Fitzpatrick, Rock Island, Charles Branham, Reynolds, Marsha Rosenberg, Reynolds, Chrisney (Clay) Jordan, Beaver City, Neb., Darrell (Young Suk) Thomas, Davenport and Lisa (Doug) Kirgan, Milan; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Janet Scott, Springfield, Ill. and a brother, Dr. H.A. Thomas, El Dorado, Kan. He was preceded in death by his parents.
