Fern E. Herzberg, 86, a resident of the Mercer County Nursing Home, Aledo and formerly of Milan, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at the home.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Memorial Estate, Moline. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Mercer County Nursing Home.
The former Fern Sharp was born on September 7, 1921 in Alexis, a daughter of Arthur and Inez Petrie Sharp. She married Warren Herzberg, Sr. on October 18, 1945 in Moline. He died on July 2, 2000.
Fern and her late husband Warren owned and operated several trucking companies, with Fern managing the office. During W.W. II, Fern worked at the Rock Island Arsenal.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of North Henderson, Ill. Fern regularly attended the McDonald’s afternoon coffee club. She was a giving person, taking caring of everyone she knew. She enjoyed crocheting and was a lover of chocolate.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Warren and Rosalind Herzberg, Jr., Milan; granddaughters, LeAnne Guyton, Christine Herzberg, Carla Britton and Jodi Herzberg; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Hauman, Milan and brother and sister-in-law, John “Jack” and Charlotte Sharp, Rio, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister, Martha Dublo.
