Eva M. Stoner, 92, of Milan, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008 at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Rock Island. Burial is in Chapel Grove Cemetery, Bowling Township. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
The former Eva Bales was born on May 23, 1915 near Cincinnati, Iowa, a daughter of Charles and Beola Burkhiser Bales. She married Raymond B. Stoner on Feb. 5, 1938 in Ottumwa, Iowa. He died Feb. 9, 1982.
Eva taught school in rural Appanoose County, Iowa from 1933 – 1938. She worked as a cashier at the Eagle Food Store, Moline and later was payroll supervisor for Eagles from 1941 – 1954. She joined Boetje Foods, Rock Island in 1954 and retired from the company in 1982.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Rock Island. Eva enjoyed working in her yard, taking bus trips, playing Bingo and most especially loved her family and friends.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Lisa Stoner, Milan; grandchildren (and spouses), Cari (Larry) Stewart, Taylor Ridge, Chris (Rick) Strong, Atlanta, Ill., Sean (Colleen) Stoner, Port Byron and Sean Warner, Milan; great grandchildren, Allison (Keith) Avin, Eric (Chelse) Stewart, Chad (Jill) Stewart, Lori (Ron) Wright, David (Cori) Strong and Steve Strong; nine great great grandchildren and one on the way. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Dena Stoner, a sister and two brothers.
