Harlan E. Sharer, 87, of Milan, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007 at Pathway Hospice at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home. Milan. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be presented by V.F.W. Post 1303 and American Legion Posts 200 and 569. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 Thursday at the funeral home, where Masonic services will be conducted by Rock Island Masonic Lodge 658 A.F. & A.M. at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church - Parish Nurse Program, Rock Island, the Rock Island V.F.W. Post 1303, or to the Rock Island Masonic Lodge 658 A.F. & A.M.
Harlan was born Aug. 12, 1919 in Albany, IL, a son of Lester and Ida (Brubaker) Sharer. He married Margria Agans, Feb. 11, 1942 at Memorial Heights United Methodist Church, Rock Island.
Mr. Sharer retired in 1971 as production manager of prototypes, R & D Division at the Rock Island Arsenal. He was employed there for 31 years.
He was a W.W. II U.S. Army veteran. Harlan was a member of First United Methodist Church, Rock Island, life member of Rock Island V.F.W. Post 1303, and also a member of Rock Island Masonic Lodge 658 A.F. & A.M. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and drawing.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 65 years, Margria; son and daughter-in-law, Marlan and Jo Ellen Sharer, Geneseo; daughter and son-in-law, Cindee and Dick Brugman, Milan; grandchildren, Matthew Sharer and his wife Jennifer, Moline, Melissa Sharer and her husband, Norman Sheehan, Washington D.C., Kara Brugman, Chicago, IL and Steve Brugman and his wife Laura, Derry, NH; great grandchildren, Jessica Brugman, Logan and Caleb Sharer, and Josephine Sheehan; a niece and several nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Miles and Lee, and a step grandson, Jeffrey Brugman.
