Roger J. Freiburg, Sr.

Roger J. Freiburg, Sr., 92, of Rock Island, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. Services for Mr. Freiburg will be 10 am, Monday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 4 pm, at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home & Crematory, Rock Island. Private inurnment will be in the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent De Paul Food Pantry at St. Pius X Catholic Church.

Roger was born on September 2, 1923 in Dubuque, Iowa. He married Alma Jean "Jinx" Budelier on November 24, 1949 in Rock Island. She preceded him in death on April 12, 2005.

Mr. Freiburg was a 1949 graduate of St. Ambrose University, Davenport, and was his class president. Roger was a sale representative for Proctor & Gamble for over 30 years before his retirement. He was an avid golfer and volunteered as a reading tutor with the Rock Island School District and in the Pastoral Care Department at UnityPoint Health- Trinity, Rock Island. Roger was a  founding member  of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island and served as a Eucharistic Minister. His memberships also include Allouez Council No. 658 of the Knights of Columbus, Rock Island. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran. His wisdom and wit will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his children (and their spouses), Deborah Freiburg, Silver Spring, Md., Roger Freiburg Jr., Santa Cruz, Calif., Julia (Clifford) Daniels, Boulder, Colo., Teresa (Dale) Hoffman, Moline, Carol Kuhns, Rock Island, and Gary (Sebastiana) Freiburg, Rock Island; 16 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
