Marilyn Frost Obituary

Marilyn J. Frost, 92, of Rock Island, died Monday, March 12, 2018 at Silver Cross Pavilion at Friendship Manor, Rock Island.  Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at St. James Lutheran Church, Rock Island.  Visitation will be from 11-1 p.m. Thursday at the church.  Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in care of the Kurth/Frost Scholarship Fund at Augustana College, American Heart Association or a favorite charity.  Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island, is assisting the family.

Marilyn was born on December 31, 1925 in Davenport, the daughter of Arthur W. and Leona Claussen Kurth.  She married John W. “Jack” Frost on October 14, 1951 in Davenport. 

Marilyn received her bachelor of arts degree from Augustana College where she enjoyed being a class representative for her graduating class.  She served on the Augustana College Alumni Board and was president of the Augustana College Endowment Society.

After her husband’s death in 1976, Mrs. Frost was employed at Augustana College where she retired in 1991.  While working, she received the Jaeke award in recognition of outstanding leadership contributions to the college.

During her life she volunteered in the PTA, Cub Scout Den Mother, as a Sunday school and vacation bible school teacher for both adults and children at St. James Lutheran Church where she was a member.  She served as a member of the church council and its president.  She was also president of St. James Lutheran Church Women.  She was a member of the Moline Junior Service League and American Association of University Women.  Marilyn was an interpreter for the Putnam Museum and served the American Cancer Society by arranging rides for treatment for patients.  She was also a reader for the WVIK Radio APRIS reading service for the blind.

Marilyn was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother.  Her family was an important part of her life along with love of friends, her church and Augustana College.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Paul (Gail) Frost, Elmwood Park, Ill.; daughter-in-law, Marla Frost, Moline; grandchildren, John (Sasha) Frost, Kristin (Scott Baranowski) Frost, Logan (Jamie) Frost and Jacob (Erika) Frost; and a special friend, Wayne Ostdick.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and son, Chris Frost.
