Larry G. Senger

Lawrence G Senger, 73, of Rock Island, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2017 at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Rock Island. A Mass of Christian Burial will be tomorrow, Friday, February 17 at 1 pm, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island. Private interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island at a later date. A Rosary will be recited today, Thursday, at 4 pm, with visitation to follow until 7 pm. Memorials may be made to Alleman High School or Sacred Heart Church, Rock Island.

Larry was born on July 21, 1943 in Rock Island, son of Lawrence K. and Florence A. Senger. He married Dolores J Thornton on August 3, 1963 at Sacred Heart Church in Rock Island. She preceded him in death on December 18, 2015.  Larry was best known as the owner of the 20th Street Market in Rock Island.  For the past 31 years and up until his death, Larry was employed by Illowa Investment Corporation, Blue Grass, Iowa. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island and the Knights of Columbus, Allouez Council No. 658, Rock Island.

He was proud of his Catholic upbringing. He loved fishing, golfing and traveling with his wife and friends. He enjoyed watching his birds, doing puzzles, going to casinos, listening to country music and watching football, westerns, Nascar on TV.  Larry coached RI Girls’ Softball for many years and coached his own girls through many successful seasons. His friends would describe him as a man with a sense of humor and a smile on his face.

Surviving are his daughters, (and spouses), LuAnn Senger, Muscatine, IA, Linda (Russ) Keizer, Centennial, CO, and Lisa (Bruce) Downing, Moline, IL; grandchildren, Katherine (Matthew) Lents, Hanover Park, IL, Joey Vander Vennet, Rock Island, IL and Zachary Senger, Moline, IL; great-grandson, Noah Vander Vennet; siblings, Beverly (Lester) Fisher, Casa Grande, AZ  and Kenneth (Paula) Senger, Fort Myers, FL; nieces, Denise Mc Intosh, McDonough, GA, Heidi Standfield, Geneseo, IL; nephew, Jason Senger, St. Charles,IL.
