Juanita M. “Nita” Iverson, 82, of Rock Island, died Monday, March 12, 2018 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law in Reynolds. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. on Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial is at the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation is 2 to 5 pm Sunday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, where a Rosary will be recited at 1:30 pm. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rock Island, or to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan. Juanita Marie Kappes was born Jan. 29, 1936 in Moline, daughter of Clarence and Elizabeth Orr Kappes. She married Richard J. Iverson on May 4, 1957 in Rock Island. Nita graduated from Alleman High School in 1954. She trained as a medical lab tech and worked for 38 years at St. Anthony’s Hospital, Franciscan Hospital and retired from Trinity Medical Center. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, sang in the church choir for 58 years and was a member of its Altar and Rosary Society. She loved music, taking voice and piano lessons for a number of years. She sang with Augustana College’s Handel Oratorio Society for 30 years and was part of their performance at Carnegie Hall. She also sang with a local Barbershop Chorus. Nita was a Master Gardner and grew championship Dahlias, which won in flower and arrangement categories. She also enjoyed biking and golfing, but her greatest love was for her family. Survivors include her husband, Richard; children, Christine (Mike) Malm, Boynton Beach, Fla., Scott (Pamela) Iverson, Reynolds, and Mathew (Pamela) Iverson, Mahomet, Ill.; grandchildren, Jason Malm, Jennifer, Malm, Joseph Iverson, Justin (Emily) Iverson, Jeremy Iverson, Audrey Iverson, and Sarah (Cain) Burgener; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Malm, Myella Acevedo, and Ares Iverson; and a sister, Susan (Duane) Swenson, Mahomet. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Theodore Kappes. The family extends their thanks to Pamela J.
