Darlene D. (Dietz) Sharp

               Darlene D. Sharp, 91, of Rock Island, passed away on December 1, 2016 at UPH-Trinity, Rock Island.  Per her wishes cremation rites will be accorded. 

                A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 4 pm to 6 pm on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island.  Memorials may be made to the family.

                Darlene was born on a farm near Walcott, IA, to Walter and Lillian Dietz.  She had two half-sisters, Lorraine Grandjean and Lois Okleshen, two sisters Dona Macias and Joyce Weirup (all deceased), and one brother, Leon (Dorothy) Dietz, Durant, IA.  She married Vic Rodenberg, and had twin sons, Dr. Terry (Trudy) Rodenberg, Lee Summit, MO, Todd (Jody) Rodenberg, Chillicothe, MO and Tamara Lofgren, Richmond, VA.  On December 14, 1968 she married Jerry Sharp.  Darlene worked as a secretary at Miller Container for five years and later sold real estate before moving to Geneseo where Jerry managed Lee's Lanes for 20 years.  They retired to Florida for ten years and returned to Rock Island. 

                Darlene loved to play golf, fish, was a beautiful dancer, loved to play cards, especially poker, and travel.  She traveled to the Bahamas, Hawaii, London, Germany, and Sweden.

                She is survived by her husband, Jerry, who took such good care of her the last years of her life; her precious dog, Sadie; her three children; and step-children, Andy Sharp, Rock Island, Deena (John) Maurus, Rock Island, Susie (John) Swearingen, Aledo, Karen (Jim) Murphy, Donahue, IA; special sister-in-law, Dally Halx; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
